Bloodborne Pathogens Course

Children aren’t simply small adults; their medical needs and responses to injury are unique. That’s why childcare providers, teachers and parents require specialized training. Our Pediatric First Aid & CPR course combines the Heartsaver Pediatric curriculum with pediatric CPR and AED skills.

Course Overview

The course is designed to meet OSHA training requirements when paired with site‑specific instruction. It teaches employees how to protect themselves and others from exposure to blood or blood‑containing materials. Students also learn how exposures occur and how to respond if an incident happens.

Who Should Attend

Anyone with a reasonable chance of encountering bloodborne pathogens should take this training.

  • Correctional officers
  • Childcare workers
  • Security guards
  • Maintenance workers
  • School personnel
  • Hotel housekeepers
  • Fitness staff
  • Tattoo artists.

PACT: Protect, Act, Clean, Tell

The course uses the PACT acronym—Protect, Act, Clean, Tell—to help students remember the correct response to bloodborne exposures.

  • Protect yourself by using gloves, face shields and other personal protective equipment.
  • Act quickly and safely when exposure occurs; contain the area and prevent further contact.
  • Clean the area with appropriate disinfectants and dispose of contaminated materials properly.
  • Tell a supervisor so that the incident is documented and post‑exposure protocols begin.

Course Format & Length

The Bloodborne Pathogens course is taught in person as a one-hour classroom session led by an experienced instructor. Training follows the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines and is designed for anyone with potential exposure to blood or bodily fluids in the workplace.

Participants receive an official AHA Bloodborne Pathogens certificate (not a certification card) upon completion. Renewal may be required annually, depending on employer or industry policies.
